Why the Mountains?

America's Most Scenic Mountain Road Passes Through Here

The Blue Ridge Parkway — often called "America's Favorite Drive" — winds 469 miles through NC's western highlands, linking Shenandoah National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Along the way: waterfalls, overlooks, wildflower meadows and some of the most dramatic autumn foliage on the East Coast.

But the mountains are more than scenery. Asheville is a nationally acclaimed food-and-arts destination. The Biltmore Estate is America's largest private home. And Boone's Appalachian State University sits in a mountain bowl surrounded by billion-dollar views.
